Welcoming MPP Andrew Dowie – MEDAtech Collingwood Tour
It was my pleasure to welcome MPP Andrew Dowie, representing the riding of Windsor–Tecumseh and PA to the Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade Vic Fedeli, to Collingwood on Friday December 2, 2022. The purpose of MPP Dowie’s visit was to have him tour the MEDAtech facility with company President Robert Rennie and to learn about potential growth plans of the Collingwood based operation.
MEDATech in Collingwood has been designing and building custom mobile heavy equipment since 2003 for world-wide use in the mining, construction, waste, transportation, and energy sectors.
The company now employees 40 people and has three divisions; Engineering services – from consulting to engineer/design/build to industrial software development, Borterra – advanced drilling equipment and Altdrive – all-electric powertrains.
On this visit, MPP Dowie learned about ALTDRIVE, which is an engineered battery-electric powered system that is capable of powering heavy equipment including commercial trucks, tractors, excavators, buses, haul trucks, light rail, and mining machines. The technology is designed to replace internal combustion engines without surrendering performance. Not only did MPP Dowie learn a great deal about the technology developed by the Collingwood operation, but he also got to drive the truck.
Following the tour and demonstration, MPP Saunderson, MPP Dowie and MEDAtech President Robert Rennie were joined in the boardroom by Taylor Davies – Medatech Sales Engineer and Darren Mueller, Medatech Director of Sales and Marketing, where they discussed local and global market trends and the advanced technology in play at the Collingwood operation.
This was Simcoe-Grey MPP Brian Saunderson’s second visit to MEDAtech in recent months. CLICK HERE to read the related story.
