The Second Tracks Program

Today, I was honoured to rise in the Legislature to pay tribute to the Second Tracks program.

Simcoe-Grey is home to some of the best downhill skiing in Ontario, yet many local youth have never had the chance to experience the sport that surrounds them. Second Tracks, founded by John Mealey and launched last season, is helping to change that reality.

Through a partnership with the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka and Blue Mountain Resorts, the program removes financial barriers by providing five weeks of skiing lessons, along with transportation, lift passes, equipment rentals and meals — all fully covered.

In its first year, Second Tracks introduced 160 youth to the slopes. This season, more than 300 young people have already expressed interest.

My sincere thanks and congratulations to John, the volunteers, supporters and community partners who make this remarkable initiative possible. Their dedication is giving young people in our region the chance to discover a lifelong passion for winter sport.
