TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION HEARTS GARDEN
September 29th was a special day as it bought with it the unveiling of the Truth and Reconciliation Hearts Garden at Nottawasaga Pines Secondary School in Angus. Along with the planting of ‘hearts’ in the Garden, the project includes two eight-foot stainless steel feathers mounted on the outside wall of the school.
The garden was created in partnership with staff members from Essa Public Library, students at Nottawasaga Pines Secondary School, and the Simcoe County District School Board’s Indigenous Education department.
The hearts display created by the students and local community members is in recognition of residential school survivors and victims.
CREEDAN VALLEY COMMUNITY CARE SENIORS’ RESIDENCE LUNCHEON
I had the opportunity to join Clearview Mayor Doug Measures, the residents and staff at the Creedan Valley Community Care Seniors Residence for a delicious pig roast lunch. Thank you to everyone for the wonderful feast. While the temperatures were cooling off outside, we had a great luau inside.
THE BEER STORE Collingwood Hospital Donation
The staff of THE BEER STORE in Collingwood stepped up to make a significant donation to the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital Foundation today. Cheers to their efforts!

INTERNATIONAL PLOWING MATCH
The five-day event featured plowing competitions and many special events including endless opportunities to learn about agriculture and life in rural Ontario.
The IPM provides a unique opportunity to meet with generations of farmers. The IPM really is a multi-generational event with high school students in attendance as members of the 4-H Club, along with their parents and often with their grandparents.
S.H.I.F.T. ALLISTON
S.H.I.F.T in Alliston now has a fresh new look! S.H.I.F.T has been selected as one of FOUR non-profit charities across Canada to receive a philanthropic donation towards the Daytime Drop-in Program and a brightening of its new space as part of BEHR’s Mood-Boosting Makeovers in honour of their 75th anniversary. On September 20th, BEHR representatives from across Canada visited the new location at 123 Victoria St. W., Alliston to give the space a “Mood-Boosting Makeover.”
FALL FAIR TIME THROUGHOUT SIMCOE-GREY
I was happy to attend the opening of the Beeton Fall Fair on Friday night, September 16th, with New Tecumseth Mayor Rick Milne and Simcoe County Warden George Cornell. The fair is one of the oldest in Canada, celebrating 166 years!
It was a pleasure to meet with Joanne Gregson, Agricultural Society President – Great Northern Exhibition, to extend greetings from The Honourable Lisa Thompson, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. Joanne was one of many people who worked so hard to prepare the site on Fairgrounds Road in Clearview for the highly anticipated 165th GNE, Sept 23rd to 25th. The fall-like weather moved in right on cue and the GNE played host to large crowds throughout the weekend.
HOSPICE ALLISTON
Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant Recognition: Matthews House Hospice Alliston has received $149,600 from the Resilient Communities Fund. This grant will help support its re-imagined Food Services program.
CAMPHILL COMMUNITIES ONTARIO
Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant Recognition: Camphill Communities Ontario received $149,000 from the Resilient Communities Fund to help recover from COVID-19 impacts adding 3 full-time Day Program Staff, 2 part-time cleaning staff, winterized greenhouse & portable-accessible washroom.
The Town of New Tecumseth has honoured a hometown Alliston Olympian by naming a park after her. Rose won gold in Tokyo as a member of the Canadian women’s soccer team.
