Ontario Investing $35,000,000 to Help Build More Homes in the Township of Clearview

Funding will support critical water infrastructure project

January 28, 2025 – For Immediate Release

Stayner, ON – This afternoon, Brian Saunderson, MPP for Simcoe-Grey was proud to announce that the Ontario government is investing $35,000,000 in critical water infrastructure to help build up to 4,300 new homes in the Township of Clearview. The funding is being delivered through the second intake of the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund, which includes a total of $325 million to help municipalities build, repair, rehabilitate and expand drinking water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure across Ontario.

“This is a critical and transformational investment for Clearview Township that will enable the construction of much needed housing,” said MPP Brian Saunderson. “By partnering with the Township, the Government of Ontario is ensuring that the necessary water infrastructure is in place to support responsible and sustainable growth now and into the future.”

The Township of Clearview will use the funding for the Stayner water well field, pumping stations and mains. This project will increase housing supply and support economic growth.

“Having a strong infrastructure foundation with connections to water systems is the first step in delivering the housing Ontario needs,” said Kinga Surma, Minister of Infrastructure. “Our government is making targeted investments through the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund to safeguard growing communities and ensure families and residents have access to safe and reliable water services.”

“Thank you to MPP Brian Saunderson, Infrastructure Ontario, Minister Kinga Surma, and the government of Ontario for the opportunity to partner in growing Clearview Township. Clearview Township has been working towards this water resource for nearly a decade. Today, we can bring focus on the effort that has been made by many councillors, staff, engineering consultants and property owners to bring Clearview forward as a growth destination. Having safe, secure, and plentiful freshwater, piped into our Stayner water system has unlocked the opportunity for home ownership to many. This announcement will open more than 4,000 units of water in Stayner that represents housing, and commercial growth. Our community is growing every year and we welcome new citizens to the most beautiful community in Simcoe County, the Township of Clearview.”

– Mayor Doug Measures

“On behalf of the County of Simcoe we would like to thank MPP Brian Saunderson and the Ontario Government for continuing to invest in Simcoe County’s future. Investments like this help contribute to the growth and sustainability of our communities, and helps unlock our ability to build more houses and strengthen our economy.”

– Basil Clarke, Warden, County of Simcoe
