October 14, 2025 – For Immediate Release

Simcoe-Grey – Brian Saunderson, MPP for Simcoe-Grey announced today that the Ontario government is providing $10,500 to Alpine Ontario Alpin to support the

2026 Canadian University Alpine Championships in Clearview and The Blue Mountains March 19-22, 2026. This is part of the government’s plan to protect the economy and promote active, healthy living across Ontario.

“I’m pleased that our government is investing in the 2026 Canadian University Alpine Championships,” said Brian Saunderson, MPP for Simcoe-Grey.  “This event celebrates athletic excellence and brings young competitors from across the country to Simcoe-Grey. Hosting these championships not only supports Ontario’s student athletes but also strengthens our local economy and highlights the outstanding winter sport facilities we have right here in Clearview Township and The Blue Mountains.”

Funding is provided through the Ontario Sport Hosting Program and is part of over $1.6 million that the Ministry of Sport is investing to support 21 national and 9 international amateur sport events in communities across the province. These events will welcome 10,000 athletes from across Canada and around the world to Ontario and are expected to generate over $34 million in economic activity.

“Sport tourism is a major economic driver for our province, and an important part of our government’s plan to protect Ontario’s economy,” said Neil Lumsden, Minister of Sport. “Through these investments, we’re helping communities unlock the benefits of sport hosting, while giving our athletes the chance to compete here at home, and reinforcing Ontario’s reputation as a premier destination for world-class events.”

The Ontario Sport Hosting Program helps bring national and international amateur sport events to the province by providing funding to organizations to host them. These events encourage investment in local sport infrastructure, help boost local economies and increase tourism. They also provide an opportunity for athletes to train and develop their skills right here at home.
