Major Infrastructure Investment Underway in Everett

Construction is officially underway on the new Everett Wastewater Treatment Plant, marking an important milestone for the Township of Adjala-Tosorontio and one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the Township’s history.

The new facility is supported by a $64 million investment from the Government of Ontario through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund and Health and Safety Water Stream. The project will replace the aging New Horizon’s Wastewater Treatment Plant, improve environmental sustainability and provide the infrastructure capacity needed to support future growth in the community.

The provincial investment will help protect water systems serving more than 650 existing homes while enabling the construction of more than 2,000 new homes in Adjala-Tosorontio. Along with contributions from project partners, the funding will allow these essential infrastructure improvements to move forward at no construction cost to local taxpayers.

“Planning for growth means investing in the infrastructure that makes it possible,” said Brian Saunderson, MPP for Simcoe-Grey. “This significant provincial investment will help replace Everett’s aging wastewater treatment system with a modern facility, while providing the servicing capacity needed to support new housing. It will ensure families today, and for generations to come, can count on safe, reliable infrastructure in their community.”

This investment reflects the importance of building the infrastructure needed to support healthy, sustainable and growing communities. The new wastewater treatment facility will provide reliable services for residents today while laying the foundation for future growth in Adjala-Tosorontio.

Congratulations to the Township of Adjala-Tosorontio and all of the project partners on the start of this important project, and thank you to everyone working to deliver this critical infrastructure for the community.
