Game on! Wasaga Beach opens state-of-the-art facility

Wasaga Stars Arena and Wasaga Beach Library ready to welcome thousands

Complex features two Olympic-sized ice pads
Wasaga Beach, Simcoe-Grey and Simcoe County Officials cut the ribbon marking the opening of the facility

On January 25 invited guests saw the new complex featuring two Olympic-sized ice rinks, a small gymnasium, and a 20,000-square-foot public library, complete with a children’s area, gaming zone, study rooms, and a digital lab. The spectacular facility replaces the aging Wasaga Stars Arena. From tournaments, to concerts to hosting a new Jr. A Hockey club, the venue will serve Wasaga Beach and Simcoe-Grey for years to come. Ontario’s Minister of Tourism, Culture & Sport Neil Lumsden was unable to attend the reception, but sent his greetings and congratulations to all involved for their hard work toward bringing the facility to a reality.

General Complex Features Include:

  • Ample parking, accommodating over 375 vehicles;
  • Electric vehicle charging station;
  • Outdoor basketball courts;
  • Outdoor reading garden;
  • Sheltered pick-up and drop-off zones; and
  • Stormwater pond feature.

  

The grand opening will be marked by a festival starting on Family Day weekend. ‘Breaking The Ice: A Celebration of Legends, Icons, and 50 Years of Sunshine features ten days of celebration that will include the grand opening of facility as well as concerts by Canadian icons, the great Burton Cummings and the great Blue Rodeo. Burton Cummings is scheduled to take the stage on February 17, followed by Blue Rodeo on February 18.
