First Step in Transformation of Stevenson Memorial Hospital
Process begins to select a team to build the revitalized hospital in New Tecumseth
The Ontario government is marking a key milestone in delivering high-quality hospital care for families in Simcoe County by issuing a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to begin the process in selecting a team that will build an expanded and revitalized Stevenson Memorial Hospital.
“The local hospital is a pillar in any community, and that’s certainly the case with Stevenson Memorial,” said Simcoe-Grey MPP Brian Saunderson. “Since 1928, families throughout Alliston and New Tecumseth have relied on the hospital. Providing world-class healthcare requires planning, process and procedures. It’s encouraging to know we’re now at this exciting stage of expansion.”
Issuing an RFQ is the first step in the process to select a qualified team to deliver this project that will ensure people in New Tecumseth and surrounding areas can continue to connect to the high-quality care they need in their growing community, for years to come.
This project includes a new, two-storey addition that will more than triple the size of the hospital and increase inpatient bed capacity by 20 per cent, allowing people and families to access the care they need, where and when they need it.
This transformative project will also include:
•an expanded emergency department that is triple in size, including a separate entrance and enclosed ambulance bays, facilitating faster and easier access to emergency care
•an updated and larger laboratory to increase capacity for testing and diagnostics, allowing the hospital to meet the needs of their increased number of patients
•a new, more modern pharmacy that can better meet the needs of patients
•new surgical suites that will more than double the surgical department in size, decreasing wait times for surgeries and procedures
•an enhanced birthing unit with new labour and delivery rooms and a family waiting area
•a new elevated helipad to help transport patients requiring urgent, life-saving care faster
In addition to these revitalized spaces, the project will also include more parking spots and new and refreshed green spaces that will provide welcoming and relaxing spaces for visitors.
“Our government continues to make record investments to build a health care system that will connect people to the care they need, when they need it,” says Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “Today’s milestone brings us one step closer to getting shovels in the ground for
Stevenson Memorial Hospital’s redevelopment and is another way our government is expanding capacity, decreasing wait times, and ensuring that families in this growing community can access the right care, in the right place, for decades to come.”
