Collingwood Lawn Bowling OTF Grant Ribbon Cutting

VIDEO: Simcoe-Grey MPP Brian Saunderson participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Collingwood Lawn Bowling Club to celebrate upgrades/restoration work made possible by an Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant. “This is a big day. You have $73,200 to help with your capital improvements” MPP Saunderson said. “Lawn Bowling has a long and proud history in Collingwood, and you are growing it again. For over 35 years, the Collingwood Lawn Bowling Club has provided players with an enjoyable outdoor sports option that not only provides multiple health benefits, but fosters a sense of community connectedness amongst club members. Thank you to all members and volunteers, past and present, who have contributed to ensuring that the CLBC remains a vibrant, safe recreational activity for all who wish to take part for many years to come.”

Collingwood Lawn Bowling Club VP Michele Boyer said membership numbers have doubled over the past couple of years. At present, there are over 70 members and Boyer said there is always room to welcome more.

Restoration work around the green saw the construction and installation of new green’s ditches, carried out by local contractor Alex Trautrim. The Collingwood Lawn Bowling Club was incorporated in November 1984 and is very active throughout each week.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony included MPP Brian Saunderson, Club VP Michele Boyer, Alex Trautrim and Club Secretary Cathy Clark-Hillcoat, along with club and board members.

The game of Lawn Bowling or “bowls” is played on a flat outdoor natural grass bowling green. The objective is to roll a biased or weighted ball in such a way that it stops as close as possible to a smaller, target ball named the kitty, or Jack.

MPP Saunderson was joined by long-time club member Larry Gee at the bench that was dedicated at the ribbon cutting ceremony recognizing the club’s 35th anniversary in 2021. MPP Saunderson participated in that ceremony as Mayor of Collingwood.
